Listen to the Driveway, a podcast available on all platforms: https://cargur.us/1d5zzf The Lexus ES has been a cornerstone of the brand’s lineup for decades, serving as its midsize luxury sedan and one of its best-selling models worldwide. But for 2026, Lexus is giving the ES its most dramatic transformation yet. It’s larger in every dimension, adopts an entirely new design language, and moves further upscale now that the flagship LS has been discontinued. Along with the redesign comes a major shift in powertrain strategy, with both hybrid and fully electric versions joining the lineup. We're focusing on the hybrid variant in this video. So, does this new approach keep the ES competitive against rivals like the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Genesis G80, and Audi A6? Let’s take a closer look. The Lexus IS is a compact executive car sold by Lexus, a luxury division of Toyota, since 1998. The IS was originally sold under the Toyota Altezza nameplate in Japan from 1998 until 2005. The IS was introduced as an entry-level sport model positioned below the ES in the Lexus lineup. It was the smallest car in the Lexus lineup until the introduction of the CT in 2011.
