Geely Galaxy M9 Hits Milan! More Than Just a New SUV Benchmark?
Just caught the news about the Geely Galaxy M9's global debut in Milan, and my first thought: Geely's really laid its cards on the table this time. After hitting that one million sales mark, the Galaxy series isn't content with just volume, you see. This M9 flagship SUV is clearly aiming for a significant value uplift, looking to reshape the large six-seater SUV landscape with some serious AI technology. Never mind anything else for a moment; just consider Geely’s global strategy – the "five major design centres, five major engineering R&D centres, five major testing regions, five major new energy technology forms, and five major AI intelligent ecosystems." That alone tells you the M9 hasn’t just appeared out of thin air. This feels more like a concentrated display of systemic capability. Building a car with a global resource network? Sounds quite 'boss', doesn't it? Then there's the design, officially touted as the "most beautiful large six-seater flagship SUV." I quite like their phrase "Chinese design, global aesthetic" – it suggests a move beyond mere imitation towards weaving in their own cultural understanding. The exterior's "Star Han Ripple" through-type lights and the "Sunrise East" taillights certainly have an artistic flair to their names. Inside, that "three-entry mansion" concept, and particularly the "Mont Blanc Porthole" for third-row passengers, feels like the designers actually sat in the back and considered the experience. That little bit of thoughtfulness, well, it deserves a nod. Now for the main course – the "five class-leading features." Honestly, one hears "class-leading" so often in the automotive world these days, one's ears are practically numb. However, the M9’s proclaimed "firsts" do seem to have a bit of substance: • Space Utilisation: A noteworthy 3.7 metres of effective interior length and what they claim is the highest space efficiency in its class at 88.3%. For a six-seater SUV, space is absolute gold, and it seems they’ve focused on that. • Driving Performance: It’s the first to feature an AI Digital Chassis, tuned by Lotus Engineering. The moment you hear Lotus, you know this isn't just aiming to be a school-run chariot; there’s likely something rather engaging about its handling. The magnesium alloy dual wheel-hub motor is also a point of interest. • Energy Efficiency: Geely states the M9 will lead large SUVs into the "4L feed-in fuel consumption" era. Specifically, the M9 is rated at a百公里馈电油耗 (feed-in fuel consumption) of 4.8L/100km. For such a substantial vehicle, if it genuinely achieves that, the cost savings on long journeys could certainly sway a fair few people. Its combined range is said to be over 1500 kilometres. • Intelligent Interaction: It globally debuts a new-generation AI intelligent cockpit, featuring a hyper-realistic AI intelligent entity and a "Flowing Memory AI large model." Sounds rather advanced. If it can truly achieve "permanent memory, recall on demand," as they put it, then the car's interface becomes less of a cold screen and more of a personal "travel butler." • Driver-Assistance Safety: The M9 will feature the Qianli Haohan H5 intelligent safety-assisted driving system, with mapless NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) available nationwide in applicable regions. Its AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) can operate at speeds up to 130 km/h, and it supports G-AES (General Obstacle Avoidance System). Safety, indeed, is both the baseline and the ultimate aspiration. Frankly, the technology and specifications the Geely Galaxy M9 brings to the table appear quite sincere, and rather ambitious. From its GEA Evo native architecture to the comprehensive integration of various AI technologies, it seems it doesn't just want to be a "good car" in the traditional sense; it aims to set a new template for large six-seater SUVs in this rapidly evolving era of intelligence. Of course, specifications on paper are one thing; the actual driving and ownership experience is everything. Whether all these "black technologies" and "new benchmarks" will ultimately make significant waves in the market, well, that depends on consumers voting with their wallets. But, at least for now, the Geely Galaxy M9 certainly shows us another determined attempt by a domestic flagship SUV to break new ground. In this great tide of intelligent driving, the real challenge, perhaps, has never solely been about the algorithms, but about how to win the complete trust and, indeed, the affection of consumers. Could the M9 be one of the answers? Video by GeelyGalaxy #GeelyGalaxyM9
