Forked from the Ford Vega concept, led by Henry Ford II, it used a more American styling accent, more power, and more luxury. Lewis D. Crusoe, a GM retiree who was again hired for Ford, telephoned the Ford design Headquarters, and Ford vice-president and design chief Frank Hershey took the idea seriously. Although being a response to the Corvette, the Thunderbird, like the project began, became a luxury car and was a big hit on its first model year. TRIVIA It is the lowest-ranked car that can only be bought with Gold. Marco's Thunderbird is the only Tier 2 car that sports a 7000rpm tachometer. MARCO'S THUNDERBIRD Marco drives a red Ford Thunderbird which can be won through a pink slip. Like other Boss cars it sports a team decal, in this case Authentics. Unlike the normal Thunderbird, this car cannot qualify in Ford Thunderbird cups, but instead qualifies in Tier 2 events. Like the normal Thunderbird, this car plays very poorly and cannot go far in Tier 2 until the player obtains a new Tier 2 car from scratch.
