M Track Day in a BMW 340i [Part 2 of 3] driveopolis
Part 2 of 3 at M Track Day at Circuit of the Americas. I took out this manual-equipped 340i for a few hot laps. The more softly sprung 340i was surprisingly fun to drive. It may have less grip than the full-blooded M cars, but its power-to-grip ratio is off the charts. Its rear tires are much more easily overwhelmed by the engine's torque and loves to be steered from the rear axle. I wouldn't say it's as 'balanced' as the M cars, but it sure is fun. With the traction and stability systems disabled, the 340i is a playful thing. I had to do a couple of powerslides to 'test' the M Performance differential. Verdict: it works! IG: @driveopolis
About BMW 340
The BMW 340, subsequently rebadged as the EMW 340, is a large six-cylinder four-door passenger saloon produced at Eisenach initially in the name of BMW. Five-door 340 station wagons were also manufactured.
