It would be easy to think that they are the first, but in reality the love for off-road supercars began with Rally racing and most notably the Group B competition. The first supercar to come from that era was the Porsche 959. The 959 was a technological masterpiece. It had self-leveling, active brake bias and differential control allowing power distribution bias between front and rear wheels in the all wheel drive system. Making over 400 horsepower it can still put some modern supercars to shame. Upon its release it took the title of fastest production car. Sure, it may not look the part and its rarity kept owners from putting on some dirt wheels and taking it to the trails, but it was created specifically for homologation in Group B rally racing. Group B was a dangerous class that killed drivers so it was canceled. If it had withstood the test of time cars like the Ferrari 288 GTO would've probably been in contention as well.
