It is a four-cylinder common rail diesel engine for medium-sized Honda vehicles. It features the ubiquitous Common rail Direct Injection configuration which Honda brands as their i-CTDi (Intelligent Common-rail Turbocharged Direct injection). The most notable feature is the aluminium block, which uses proprietary technology to the manufacturing process of the cylinder block, and provides both light weight and high rigidity. The valvetrain is a DOHC style with chain-driven camshafts. The Fuel System is a high-pressure 1,600 bar (23,000 psi) Common-Rail direct injection type with a variable-geometry turbocharger with intercooler.
