Barn find rare Mercedes W111 convertible survivor - sat for 40 years

Not quite a real barn but an incredible garage find classic 1963 Mercedes Benz 220SE convertible survivor. Will it start? You will have to watch the full Late Brake Show episode to find out, but needless to say Jonny's attention spiked when we received an email asking whether he'd be interested in a 'fintail' W111 Mercedes convertible (also known as a stack headlight Mercedes) that has sat dormant in the garage for some 30 years, having not been on the road since the mid 1980s. The Mercedes is a gorgeous 1963 model, which originally launched in 1961 (the same year as the E-Type Jaguar) , two years after the 4 door saloon. This drop top cabriolet and the coupe were unveiled that year to celebrate 75 years of Mercedes Benz, but it is far rarer to see a factory right-hand drive (RHD) car compared to LHD. Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show. This Mercedes has been in the same family for 50 years now. Mrs Fielding of Manchester inherited it from her Father, who bought it in the early 1970s. He passed away in the mid 1980s and was the last person to drive and MoT it. Nick Fielding, who appears on this film, is the grandson of the owner, and is a keen car fanatic himself. It has taken many years to persuade his Mum to let anyone dust off her Dad's treasured Merc, and begin to ascertain what the car will need to recommission. After a respray in the early 1990s, the car went straight back into the garage without use and then fell victim to a strange paint reaction. Although it flaked off in sheets, Jonny and Nick were pleasantly surprised by how solid the bodywork is beneath, especially as it has always been a British sold car.
