Daewoo Motor Video Tributo

Saehan Motors
1960s1967youtube

Video Prepared by AA Car Videos Chile, to remember the now defunct South Korean brand Daewoo Motor. Daewoo was founded on March 22, 1967 by Kim Woo-choong. In 1978 Daewoo took over the automaker Saehan Motors, which he renamed Daewoo Motors, directly competing with Hyundai. In order to gain a foothold in the market, in 1983 he signed a joint venture with General Motors and began manufacturing low-cost utility vehicles inspired by other models. On the other hand, Daewoo Motors reached Australia and the United States and became the sixth automaker in the world after the fall of the Berlin Wall, by opening subsidiaries in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Confidence in its expansion led it in 1992 to buy General Motors' stake in the automotive subsidiary, making it an independent company. In 1997, the Asian financial crisis erupted, affecting the economies of the so-called "four Asian dragons", including South Korea. Daewoo was one of the companies that borrowed the most to face its expansion and could not return the credits it requested. Daewoo Motors declared bankruptcy in 2000 and within a few months General Motors took control. As for Daewoo Motors, General Motors turned it into GM Daewoo and initiated a change of brand name in different continents. From January 2005, all Daewoo models in Europe (until its disappearance in 2015) and in the Middle East became Chevrolet, while in Oceania they became Holden. Only South Korea and Vietnam retained the Daewoo brand for a time, although eventually they also changed their name to Chevrolet. For its part, Tata Motors acquired the heavy truck division and Young An, owned by South Korean businessman Baik Sung-Hak, took over the Daewoo Bus Corporation bus division. #daewoo #daewoomotor #gmdaewoo #daewookorea
