How I integrated Android Auto / Carplay to a BMW Z4 E85/E86 OEM+ style
This is my attempt at bringing Android Auto / Apple CarPlay into an old BMW Z4 E85/E86, while keeping the OEM factory display fully intact. The system is built around a - Raspberry Pi 5 (generates the analog RGsB signal) - And a custom PCB (reads IBUS, sends keyboards strokes to the RPI This allows modern infotainment features without replacing the original screen or interior components. This project and is still very much a work in progress. Currenty only tested on the BMW Z4 E85 but can probably be used in E46, E83 and other similar models that use the same OEM display. About BMW Z4 (E85)
The first generation of the BMW Z4 consists of the BMW E85 (roadster version) and BMW E86 (coupe version) sports cars. The E85/E86 generation was produced from 2002 to 2008.
