Range Rover Sport EV First Drive: Now we know why JLR took so long

The all-electric Range Rover Sport is coming, but JLR has taken its time. After driving an early prototype at Goodwood, we think we know why. With an 800V architecture, dual electric motors, permanent four-wheel drive and a 118.5kWh usable battery, the Range Rover Sport EV promises to deliver the refinement, effortless performance and genuine off-road ability buyers expect. But can it still feel like a proper Range Rover once the engine has gone? We take the prototype around Goodwood’s handling circuit and off-road course, including the Dragon Step, and find out what JLR has changed, why it developed its own motors and battery in-house, and how the electric Sport could compare with the BMW iX5, Polestar 3 and Porsche Cayenne Electric.
