This set of standards is a major institutional breakthrough as it creates the world's first national-level evaluation system for the entire automotive chip industry chain . Previously, a major challenge for Chinese-made chips was overcoming high entry barriers and a lack of market trust, which prevented them from being widely adopted in vehicles . The new standards solve this by: Establishing a Unified Evaluation System: They provide a clear, authoritative, and professional framework for evaluating the capabilities of all relevant institutions, including those involved in design, certification, testing, and computing power . Building a "Quality Chain": By guaranteeing the professionalism and authority of the certification process, these standards aim to accelerate the journey of domestic chips "from R&D to vehicle application," laying a solid institutional foundation for the industry to develop a trillion-yuan ecosystem . ⚡️ Strong Policy Tailwinds for Domestic Chips This move is part of a broader, urgent national strategy to secure the country's automotive supply chain. These standards act as a gateway, pushing the market toward domestic options. Mandates for Local Content: An earlier policy mandate from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and SAMR is set to take effect on July 1, 2026, requiring that for all new energy passenger vehicles sold in China, at least 70% of the key technologies in their smart driving chips must be independently controllable . This directly restricts the use of purely foreign solutions from companies like Nvidia and Mobileye . Boosting Domestic Alternatives: These regulations create a massive market advantage for domestic chip companies and automakers with in-house capabilities, such as Horizon Robotics, Huawei, and Nio . 🚗 Why This is a Major Win for Nio Nio is uniquely positioned to benefit from these policies for several key reasons: Nio is Already a Leader in Self-Developed Chips: While many automakers are just starting their chip strategies, Nio is far ahead. Its self-developed "Shenji" (NX9031) chip has already been mass-produced, with over 250,000 units delivered. The company expects to equip over 80% of its models with it by the second half of 2026 .
