The 1st generation of Monaro, the HK, borrowed heavily from the current GM cars of the time, the Camaro, Corvair and Nova. Holden were intent on using their in-house developed V8, but delays in its development, meant Holden decided to use the readily available Chevy 327ci (5.4L) V8 instead. This gave GTS 327 a handy 250hp deployed through a 4-speed manual transmission. It worked very well, well enough to give Norm Beechy victory in the 1969 Australian Touring Car Championship.
