Hey hey hey gang, it’s good to see you all again. You remember me, don’cha? So what are we up to this time? Well, you all remember my pal Craig, right? From Bonzai Rides? He’s been on the channel a few times, showing off the JDM rides he’s brought in. I just love this thing, it’s such a cool and unique ride. For those of you who don’t know, the AutoZam AZ-1 is a Mazda vehicle with a Suzuki engine manufactured in Japan. It’s part of the “kei class” of vehicles, which is a Japanese classification that means it’s the smallest passenger car that’s legal for highway driving. The AZ-1 first launched in 1992, but because Japan was in the middle of a recession they never sold that many of them. Only 4392 of these were ever made, making this one of the rarest cars in Japan, let alone here in North America. And look, there’s one sitting in the shop right there. So cool! There’s a lot Craig wants to do to it, so today we’re going to go through it and show you what the plans are. We’ll also take you on a little tour through it, so you can get an idea of what this unique ride is like. Autozam (オートザム, Ōtozamu) was a brand of Japanese automaker Mazda, specializing in small cars and Kei cars, many of which were rebadged Suzuki models. Autozam also briefly acted as importer of Lancia vehicles to Japan. The Autozam dealership channel is still in operation in some Japanese locations, but sell all current Mazda products.
