Nio EP 9 Nurburgring

Car
Track DayTop Speed Runyoutube

Chinese carmaker (and NextEV brand) Nio took its EP9 electric hypercar to the Nürburgring Nordschleife last year, and posted an impressive lap time of seven minutes, 5.12 seconds, claiming the title of the world's fastest electric vehicle. Apparently, that wasn't quick enough for Nio, as the car returned to the Green Hell last week to shave off a few seconds. Now, with a new lap time of six minutes, 45.9 seconds, it's the fastest road-legal car around the famous circuit, EV or otherwise. That's faster than the Lamborghini Huracán Performante, which took the title for fastest production car around the 'Ring earlier this year at six minutes, 52.01 seconds. It's also a couple of seconds better than the barely road-legal Radical SR8LM's six minutes, 48 seconds. At least those runs have video available, and we hope Nio releases its own soon. The Nio EP9 is no regular consumer car, though. Production is very limited, with only six cars made so far, with a second run to be priced at $1.48 million apiece. The car provides a megawatt of power (1,342 horsepower), with a top speed of 194 miles per hour, and can sprint from 0-124 mph in just 7.1 seconds. Nio claims it can pull three Gs in a corner, and that it achieves 24,000 Newtons (5,395 pounds) of downforce at 149 mph. #Autoblog

There are over 1.6 billion cars in use worldwide as of 2025. The French inventor Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built the first steam-powered road vehicle in 1769, while the Swiss inventor François Isaac de Rivaz designed and constructed the first internal combustion-powered automobile in 1808. The mode...
