The street-focused Toyota GR GT is being engineered as a high-performance front-engine, rear-wheel-drive super-GT that directly translates Gazoo Racing’s motorsport development into a road-legal format. At its core is a newly developed 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine combined with an electric motor, forming a hybrid powertrain that targets roughly 640–650 horsepower and around 850 Nm of torque. The V8 uses a hot-V layout, with the turbochargers mounted inside the cylinder banks to improve throttle response, reduce turbo lag, and allow tighter packaging. Power is sent through a newly developed 8-speed automatic gearbox that uses a wet clutch instead of a torque converter for quicker, more direct shifts. This configuration helps achieve a targeted weight distribution of approximately 45 percent front and 55 percent rear, improving balance, traction, and corner exit stability while preserving traditional long-nose GT proportions. Chassis construction represents a significant step forward for Toyota performance cars. The GR GT is built around the company’s first dedicated all-aluminum body frame, designed specifically for high rigidity and reduced mass. To further lower weight and center of gravity, carbon-fiber-reinforced components are used in key structural and body areas, such as the roof and selected panels.
