Some won, some lost. San Antonio Pieper may 1 day join the list of dynasties like Judson, Westlake, Lake Travis, Katy, Dallas Highland Park and Southlake Carroll. They’ll hope the last 31 minutes of their debut game are a sign of the future and not the 1st 17. Leander Glenn jumped out to a 34-0 lead in the 1st 17 minutes thanks to 3 touchdown runs by D.J. Dugar and a pick-6 by Dalton Bradley as Glenn won 34-10 to start 1-0 after beginning 0-4 last year. Pieper struggled to move the ball and had 2 1st downs while the Grizzlies dominated the opening half. But in the final 31 minutes, the Warriors shut out the Grizzlies, moved the ball well, forced turnovers and scored their 1st points, 1st touchdown and forced 1st turnovers. A field goal by Tanner Lieb marked the 1st points in school history. On the ensuing possession, Laeton Lopez stripped Dugar of the ball and it was recovered by Chase Kiehne. Jake Strachan took advantage and threw a 27 yard touchdown pass to Logan Yurick on 4th down for the school’s 1st touchdown. The 1st 17 minutes Glenn made Pieper look like a debut team. The Grizzlies converted 2 3rd downs and a 4th down on their 1st drive which ended with a 6 inch score by Dugar. On the next Pieper (0-1) snap Strachan’s pass was intercepted by Bradley, 1 of 2 he had in the game, and returned 44 yards for a score. Barely 90 seconds later, JJ Wilks broke 3 tackles and ran 59 yards for a touchdown 20-0 after 1. Dugar had a pair of 5 yard touchdown runs, sandwiched around a muffed kickoff by Pieper and it was 34-0 with 6:43 left in the half. Pieper didn’t get its 1st defensive stop until Glenn missed a field midway through the 3rd quarter and Glenn never had an offensive drive the rest of the game. Pieper will try again for its 1st win next week versus Wimberley. #lockerroomaccess #txhsfb #pieper
