Our BMW X3 Shocks Us On This 1000 Mile Road Trip to Dinan HQ... And It Didn't Go To Plan

►What's the point of building the ultimate modern BMW if you're not going to use it, right? Well, that's exactly what Alex and the rest of the BMW team were thinking when putting the build together, and it didn't take long to figure out just how to make the most of the build. Build partner Dinan had invited FCP Euro down to its HQ in Alabama, and trekking there for a final dyno tune sounded like a great idea. Along the way, the X3 would travel through the New York metro area, down long stretches of interstate, cruise two-lane country roads, and stop by BMW's Spartanburg assembly plant, the main manufacturing plant for BMW's SUVs, including our X3. So that's what happened…on paper, at least. The journey is far more eventful with some unfortunate timing from the weather, lots of B58 noises, and a stop in a town taken directly from the pages of a Grimm Brothers fairy tale. Along the way, the X3 M40i proves itself to be a performance bargain, showing that a handful of the right parts is all it takes to completely change a vehicle's character.
