With a name that was used many times throughout Fiat's history, the Tipo now has a new generation. It was first previewed earlier this year, at the Istanbul Motor Show, and then detailed by the company's Turkish branch. The new Tipo is a compact sedan designed in Italy, by Centro Stile Fiat, and developed in Turkey together with Tofas R&D, one of FCA's largest research and development centers. The Linea's successor comes with a choice of three trim levels, with standard features that include 15-inch wheels, Uconnect radio with MP3 player, USB, AUX, 3.5-inch LCD, air conditioning, electric power steering, electric centralized locks, automatic boot opening, electrically operated and heated side mirrors, ABS with EBD, ESC with Hill Holder and tire pressure monitoring. The second trim adds 16-inch wheels, chrome-plated handles, body-painted side mirror caps, Uconnect 5-inch touch screen radio, Bluetooth, 3.5-inch TFT instrument panel, multi-function steering wheel, electrochromatic rearview mirror, electrically-operated rear windows, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights, while the range-topping variant brings 16-inch alloy rims, fog lamps, chrome-plated inserts, automatic climate control, cruise control and front armrest. The automaker also mentions the McPherson independent front suspension and the interconnected wheels torque beam on the rear, along with an engine lineup that includes four units, two petrol and two diesels, with outputs ranging between 95 PS (94 HP) and 120 PS (118 HP), connected to a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, depending on the engine. The 2016 Fiat Tipo will be produced in the Tofas plant, in Bursa, Turkey, and will be offered for sale in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa). No pricing details were announced, but the sedan is expected to start from around €12,000 ($13,645). The new compact car will be sold as the Aegea in Turkey and will be followed by two more versions, a hatchback and an estate, next year.
