A while ago Cadillac announced that each new model they release is going to be an EV and over the past 2 years the gave us the LYRIQ, OPTIQ, Escalade IQ and the today’s hero - the VISTIQ.
You can look at it as an EV-replacement for the forgotten Cadillac XT6. It’s 3-row mid-size SUV with a starting price of around $80,000, which can go up to 100k if you get a fully loaded model. Today we have a somewhat entry level Sport trim which already is pretty well equipped so it’s not like you pay $80,000 and you get a bare bones model, but let’s talk what this thing is from a technical standpoint.
Just like all new EVs made by GM, the VISTIQ uses the Ultium drivetrain architecture and as of now, it only comes as a 615 hp dual motor AWD. That means it can do 0-60 under 4 seconds. With a 102 kWh battery on board, we’re looking at a range of about 305 miles.
As of platform itself, the VISTIQ sits on GM’s BEV3 shared with cars like the LYRIQ, OPTIQ, Equinox EV, or Blazer EV and features a multilink front and rear suspension with semi-active dampers, so that’s a positive surprise. We can also get an air suspension and a rear-axle steering as an option but our Sport tester doesn’t have it, you have to go up to the Premium Luxury trim, which starts at 94 grand.
As of charging times, if you use DC fast charging, you can get up to 80 miles of range in about 10 minutes and going from 20% to 80% takes about 45 minutes.
Just like with other EVs, the final 20% capacity of a lithium-ion battery charges at a slower rate, extending the charging time and Cadillac actually recommends charging the car to 80% for longevity unless you absolutely need a full range.
The most convenient and inexpensive way to charge an EV is at home, using and AC Level 2 wall box. If you take that approach, you can add between 20 and 47 miles per hour of charge, depending on how powerful your charger is.
