CX500 was favoured back in the day by despatch riders in the 1980s for its reliability. The CX500 featured a unique engine layout and backbone frame design giving it an aesthetic edge, and a visual lightness which is ideal for a café racer. The 48hp engine of the CX500 featured pushrods. The heads were pulled 22 degrees inboard to pull the carbs in closer to the middle of the bike and out of the rider’s way. Blacktrack BT-01 cafe racer series unveiled This had the benefit of splaying the exhaust pipes out for a stronger visual statement of power. To help lower the centre of gravity, the counter-rotating five-speed transmission was located just below and to the right of the engine. The bike had standard telescopic forks at front and adjustable shocks at rear. The CX500 was the first production bike equipped with tubeless tires. A visually plain Honda CX500 found in pieces in a garage served as the donor motorcycle for a sleek and modernized café racer project. The motorcycle called the Blacktrack BT-01 was a brainchild of Blacktrack designer and founder Sacha Lakic. Each BT-01 cafe racer project bike will start out as a hand-picked, Honda CX500. Apart from its unique engine layout and backbone frame, the CX500 also featured a water cooled V-twin motor that has plenty of character and a pleasing rumble. Each BT-01 cafe racer donor will be thoroughly overhauled before any work starts. Honda CX500 based Blacktrack BT-01 cafe racer series unveiled The motorcycle will be designed to ensure optimal performance and reliability by using new bearings, gaskets and bushes besides a custom-made wiring system. Visually, the stock CX500 will be completely overhauled. While the fuel tank mimics the CX500’s original unit, it is tilted forward slightly. The solo seat is garnished with non-slip upholstery and contrast stitching. Apart from visual changes, the finished BT-01 cafe racer is claimed to be significantly lighter than the stock machine. The BT-01 cafe racer will come equipped with clip-on handlebars and rear set foot pegs which will offer sporty ergonomics. Other features include discreet lighting, side-by-side gauges and a hand-made exhaust system.
