How Many 351 Engines Did Ford Have? #Mustang #Cougar #Falcon #Fairlane #Torino #Comet #Montego #Maverick #grantorino 351 Time Line 1969 Model Year, all passenger cars The 351 was introduced. This was a 302 with a 1 inch taller deck and larger bore. It is also by bore and stroke a 352 cubic inch engine. Ford called it a 351 to separate it from the Chevrolet 350 and their own 352 FE. There were other changes, but that is the basics. Due to the taller deck, the intake manifolds will not interchange. Two Variants: 351 2V (H in the VIN Code) and 351 4V (M in the VIN Code). This is the letter in the Fifth position on the VIN List of what cars it came in is in the description below. • 1969–1974 Ford Galaxie • 1969 Ford Mustang* • 1969 Mercury Cougar* • 1969–1991 Ford Country Squire • 1969–1970 Ford Fairlane (Americas) • 1969–1971 Ford Torino# • 1972-1976 Gran Torino# • 1974–1976 Ford Elite# • 1975–1996 Ford E series • 1977–1979 Ford LTD II • 1977–1979 Ford Thunderbird • 1979–1996 Ford Bronco • 1979–1982 Ford LTD (Americas) • 1979–1991 Ford LTD Crown Victoria (after 1982, this engine would only be sold for police sales in the U.S.) • 1983–1997 Ford F-Series • 1977–1979 Mercury Cougar (station wagons only) • 1978, 1986–1991 Mercury Colony Park • 1978–1982 Mercury Marquis • 1986–1991 Mercury Grand Marquis • 1980 Continental Mark VI • 1995 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R *The overwhelming number of 1970 Mustangs and Cougars, Montegos and Torinos equipped with the H or M code engine VIN received Cleveland 351s. # After 1969 The 351 Windsor was available only in the 2V (VIN H Code). The Cousin The 400 (S Code in the VIN) was introduced in 1970 as a mid sized replacement to the aging 390FE. The 400 was a taller deck 335 series engine. I feel a theme here… • 1970–1974 Ford Galaxie • 1972-1976 Gran Torino • 1974–1976 Ford Elite 351 Windsor 351 Cleveland and 351 Modified A History 351 Cleveland 1970 Model Year, all passenger cars The 351 was introduced. This was a new 335 Series Engine. Two Variants: 351 2V (H in the VIN Code) and 351 4V (M in the VIN Code). This is the letter in the Fifth position on the VIN. There were three Performance 351 4V engines. This engine was dropped after 1974. M code was a 351 Cleveland 4 barrel. Dropped after 1971. Q Code was a 351 Cleveland dubbed the “Cobra Jet” as it used the same lift and duration as the 428 Cobra Jet. It was designed to run on regular fuel. This became the 351 4V in 1972 because Ford retarded the valve timing 4 degrees to meet emissions. This engine was removed from production after 1974. R Code was a 351 Cleveland High Performance. In 1971 the Boss 351 was introduced. Like the Boss 302 before it the Boss 351 had a mechanical cam and higher compression. In 1972 the Boss became the HO due to the same cam restrictions of the 351 CJ and a drop in compression to 9.7:1. This engine was dropped at the end of 1972. • 1970–1974 Ford Galaxie • 1970–1973 Ford Mustang* • 1970–1973 Mercury Cougar* • 1970 Ford Fairlane • 1970–1971 Ford Torino • 1972-1974 Gran Torino • 1974 Ford Elite 351 M The 351 M (H in the VIN Code) was introduced in 1975 and replaced the 351 Cleveland 2V. Frustratingly Ford used the H code to identify the taller deck M. • 1975–1977 Ford Galaxie/LTD • 1975-1977 Gran Torino/Cougar/Thunderbird/LTDII • 1974–1976 Ford Elite Episode 278 Manic Mechainc 351 Cleveland 400 or 351M Which Is It? https://youtu.be/9-aQIPAcwT4 Jford@autorestomod.com Insta: @autorestomod www.patreon.com/gasolinemedia Sponsors: www.autokrafters.com Jford@autorestomod.com Insta: @autorestomod www.patreon.com/gasolinemedia

About Car

A car, or an automobile, is a motor vehicle with wheels. Most definitions of cars state that they run primarily on roads, seat 1-8 people, have four wheels, and mainly transport people rather than cargo. There are over 1.6 billion cars in use worldwide as of 2025. The French inventor Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built the first steam-powered road vehicle in 1769, while the Swiss inventor François Isaac de Rivaz designed and constructed the first internal combustion-powered automobile in 1808.
