The Lincoln Motor Company (also known simply as Lincoln) is a division of the Ford Motor Company that markets luxury vehicles under the Lincoln brand. Founded in 1917 by Henry M. Leland Lincoln became a subsidiary of Ford in 1922. In 2012 with the discontinuation of the Mercury line Lincoln was rebranded as the "Lincoln Motor Company" to help differentiate its cars from the Fords on which they are based. The product line currently includes sedans crossovers sport utility vehicles and versions for limousine/livery use. They are marketed primarily in North America. Ford introduced the Lincoln brand to China in 2014. Lincoln vehicles are also officially sold in the Middle East and South Korea. Lincoln sprung as an independent luxury-car producer in 1917. Founded by engineering whiz Henry M. Leland after his departure from Cadillac which he had helped co-found the company was named Lincoln as a reminder of the admiration Leland bore for the now defunct state-leader. In a macabre coincidence president JFK was just like Abraham Lincoln was. At the time of his JFK was being driven in a Lincoln Continental limousine.
