‘Project: Secret!’ Reveals 14 Porsche Prototypes, Concept Cars [Photo Gallery]. Over the course of this year, Porsche has been revealing special models or prototypes buried deep within its hidden vault, and it has all been leading up to an incredibly awesome new exhibit at the Porsche Museum. The exhibit is called “Project: Secret!” and it will include 14 of the most secretive projects in Porsche’s history. This includes design studies, concept vehicles and even some of the prototype test mules that helped Porsche develop some of the brand’s past and present vehicles. Leading up to the kickoff of this exhibition, Porsche has revealed five of the vehicles that will be on display, and based on these alone, you might want to book your flight to Stuttgart sooner rather than later. Our favorite, of course, is the 1982 Porsche Type 959 C29 you see above. No, your aren’t looking at a severely rough and neglected Porsche 959, but it is an early prototype that helped engineers fine tune the car’s amazing aerodynamics. Produced from 1986 to 1989, the Porsche 959 was Porsche’s first-ever supercar and an early predecessor to cars like the Porsche Carrera GT and Porsche 918. Another interesting concept vehicle is the 1991 Porsche 989. As the story goes, Porsche execs pulled the plug on this four-door 911 in 1991, but this concept did end up depicting the eventual styling language found on the 996 911 that was around from 1998 to 2004. Not only that, but it obviously planted a seed for Porsche’s first-ever production sedan, the Porsche Panamera. Other vehicles on display will include a 1976 Porsche 924 that was developed break a world record for averaging 250 kph over a 10,000 miles, but the speed record run was never attempted. There’s also the Porsche 984, which was a two-seat roadster concept pondered from 1984 to 1987 that may have eventually led to the Boxster. And finally, Porsche confirmed that a research car used in 1978 and 1979 called the Porsche 995 will also be part of the exbhibit. “Project: Secret!” will be housed in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany from September 17, 2014 through January 11, 2015. In addition to the full scale vehicles that will be on display, Porsche will also reveal some of the scaled down cars from its archives and show films of some of the vehicles testing.
