Music: Beyond the Light Artist: Keiko Matsui Please subscribe to be notified of future automotive slideshows More vehicles on the website..... rustedbumper.com General Motors was founded in 1908 by William Durant, who at the time was the General Manager of Buick (formed in 1899) In 1911, Durant formed a partnership with Belgian-born race-car driver, Louis Chevrolet and the Chevrolet Motor Company was born. After World War II ended in 1946, Chevrolet started building cars again, the 1946 model was very similar to the 1942 car, the grille changed, the centre vertical bar was gone and indicators were changed from vertical to horizontal. The two models available got new names; The base model was now the Stylemaster; 2 door Business Coupe (2 seater), Sport Coupe and Town Sedan, 4 door Sport Sedan. The top model, the Fleetmaster; 2 door Sport Coupe, Convertible, Town Sedan and 4 door Sport Sedan and Wagon. The Fleetline sub series was available in 'bustleback' 4 door Sedan (extended trunk) and 2 door 'aerosedan, (fastback) Chevrolets were also produced in Australia by General Motors Holden from 1926-68. From 1946-48, they differed from their US counterpart in having a different body with rear-hinged back doors and a larger trunk, the unique Coupe Utility was also produced there.
