Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am Introduction. The Start of my own Obsession for the Trans Am SE.

The moment Burt Reynolds propelled the Black and Gold Trans Am into movie folklore. In America in 1977 the original Smokey and the Bandit film had been beaten into second place at the box office only because it was the same year Star Wars was released. Burt Reynolds was arguably at this time the biggest name in Hollywood. The car he drove in the movie was about to turn for Pontiac a car that had produced reasonable but unspectacular sales figures, into a golden egg. In the days before product placement was noticeable in film and long before “tipping point” become part of marketing vernacular, the car that emerged from the back of a Semi trailer and into the hearts and minds of the people could hardly be more stark. For a 10 year old boy living in suburban North London, England this film and more to the point THIS CAR, started a boyhood fascination for this stunning sleek machine. This turned into an adult journey that took 25 years to complete. The story of this can be found at: https://timrogersmt.com/trans-am/
