BMW N20 ENGINE REBUILD | FULL ENGINE OVERHAUL FROM START TO FINISH In this video, we take you through a complete rebuild of a BMW N20 engine, a turbocharged 2.0L engine commonly found in many BMW models. This engine came to our shop with serious internal issues that could not be solved by minor repairs. A full engine teardown and rebuild was the only correct solution. 🔍 What caused the failure? Like many N20 engines, common issues can include: • Timing chain wear • Bearing damage • Oil pressure problems • Internal engine noise • Loss of performance and reliability During the teardown, we carefully inspected every internal component to identify the root cause and prevent future failures. 🛠 Work performed during the rebuild: • Complete engine disassembly • Detailed inspection of crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, and bearings • Replacement of worn and damaged internal components • Installation of new gaskets and seals • Measurement and verification of clearances • Proper torque procedures and factory specifications followed • Final assembly and preparation for installation This rebuild was not about making the engine “just run again.” Our goal was to restore long-term reliability, correct oil pressure, and proper engine operation, the way BMW intended. 📌 Why engine rebuild instead of replacement? A properly rebuilt engine can often be a better solution than a used replacement, especially when the root cause is known and corrected. It allows full control over parts quality, clearances, and assembly accuracy.
